Day 18 - A picture of your biggest insecurity

"It takes more courage to reveal insecurities than to hide them" - Alex Karras

Most people, no matter how they present themselves to the world, have their share of insecurities. How can we not be insecure when there are so many areas in our lives that we have doubts about?

I have many insecurities; physical, emotional, financial and also in my relationships. I wish I could be more secure about my appearance, because you know how us girls can obsess about that. Actually, guys obsess about that, too. Sometimes I doubt if I'm being the best girlfriend that I can be, or if I should be saving more money, or if I'm spending enough quality time with my friends.

I know that sometimes I put too much pressure on myself to be better. I don't know if that's always a good thing, but I guess your insecurities can also be your motivator. We can't always physically do something about it, so how do we deal with it? We can choose to overlook it, embrace it, or make the most of it? Luckily, sometimes we can do something about it.

For example, I've always been very insecure about my teeth, among a thousand other things. They're not perfect, and I know it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I've always wanted straight, white teeth. It's usually the first thing I notice on photos of myself. So I decided, at the age of 25, to get braces. I know it's a little unorthodox to be a "brace face" at my age, but I've always wanted it, and I made my appointment for September 10th.

Actually, I believe that insecurities are a blessing in disguise. If we were totally secure about ourselves and our lives, we wouldn't be driven to be better, and maybe even not reach our full potential.

So, if you are really insecure about something and it's possible to do something about it, stop making excuses and do something. For the other nine hundred and ninety nine insecurities, I guess I should try to embrace it and make peace with the fact that I can't do anything about it.
