Day 62 – A picture of your favorite childhood book

I have fond memories of the library in the small town that I grew up in. I used to go there with my dad every week and just sit in the kids' section and page through the books. I was five when the librarian allowed me to check out my very first book by myself. I couldn't read it yet, but I really loved the smell of the book and the illustrations were of an overweight lady wearing a giant hat on a bus, which I found really funny.

After that first time I was allowed to check out books by myself, I continued going to the library every week all throughout my school years. Even though I probably read all the books in the library by the time I was 18, there was one book that I probably checked out a hundred times. This was my favorite childhood book; Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Although I only read the English version for the first time in grade six, I read the Afrikaans version, Charlie en die Sjokolade Fabriek, many many times before that. I really love all of Roald Dahl's books, but this one was by far my favorite. I don't know why I didn't just buy the book...

What is your favorite childhood book?
